Territory Days

Every year, Old Colorado City hosts Territory Days. It's a western themed fair that runs several blocks of the old downtown and lasts all Memorial Day weekend. We spent a few hours on Sunday walking around and soaking up the nice weather.

Old Colorado City was the original Downtown for Colorado Springs back in the 19th century. It has since been replaced by a more modern downtown a bit farther East and more central to the whole city. It is a large tourist attraction, but its architecture is quaint and the restaurants are very good.

It was warm and crowded, but that's to be expected at any summer festival in the springs. The smell of street fair food filled the air and after living here for almost 10 years the eclecticism of the crowd has become part of the flavor.

Miles didn't seem impressed, but off-film, he had a lot of fun people watching.

There was a lot to eat.

The birds are part of an Exhibition of Raptors demonstration for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The finger belonged to some girl who pointed right as Chris snapped the picture.

The backdrop was so photos could be taken, for a fee, with each of the birds.

Even the performers took time to enjoy the festivities.

Memorial Day makes a small statement amidst the cowboy and indian artwork.

Live music is a big part of the festival and Miles seemed to enjoy this guy the most.

There were train rides for the kids, but Miles was too young to go alone.

The giant turkey leg is a staple of all Colorado fairs....

......as is grilled corn.

The park hosted a lot of historical demonstrations.

This guy is available all year in Old Colorado City, but he makes a big showing during the summer events. Miles got a big kick out of the horse.

We tried to check out the inside of one of the tents, but I think the performers were changing inside.

We are never short on barbecue in Colorado Springs. Which is why we went for Indian food after we left Territory Days.......Happy Memorial Day!
