Unfortunate Wish Come True

After our trip into the doctor's office yesterday, Miles' left eye swelled up and he kept complaining of it hurting, so I called the doctor back and they wanted me to take him into the ER because they feared cellulitis (bacterial infection). We took him into urgent care last night around 5 since his fever had escalated to 106+ and his eye was swelling up.....now we were really nervous. (We have been made more scared by all the things that could possibly be wrong with Miles rather than what has actually been wrong.) They did blood work and found that his white blood cell count was fine, and that it was probably just a virus. The doctor there was pretty convinced that he had the flu and said that in 30% of the cases, kids test negative for the flu even though they really have it. They did give him an antibiotic in his i.v. just in case though. We got our prescription for Tamiflu and went home. Miles' fever got pretty high throughout the night again and at one point he wandered around delirious, wanting all the lights on, but he made it and today although he is completely wiped out, he seems better with a temp down around 100. The medication seems to have really helped even with just a few doses. I guess the doc was right about the flu.

Juggling the two kids has been a huge struggle especially with Chris working yesterday. The baby could get very sick if she gets what Miles had, so we have tried as hard as we could to keep her away, but at this point it is just a waiting game to see if any of us will get it, including Avery. Hopefully Miles is the only unlucky one, but we will just have to deal with whatever comes our way. Chris was a great daddy last night and stayed up with Miles on the couch all night long (so I could have the baby in the bedroom to be able to feed her at night). Despite not getting any sleep, it is a beautiful day here today and the sun and fresh air of having the windows open is good for all of us, but it will be a while before we have the kids together again. It still may be a long, tough weekend and unfortunately we have had to cancel all the plans we had made. At least Miles won't miss Halloween or Trick or Treating.

I Like Them Fat Girls!

This is what a baby, who eats ALL the time, looks like. Never experienced this with Miles cause he barely ate and still doesn't. But Avery is getting ready to need to "hit the gym" soon. We still love her rolls and all.

Seriously, this pictures makes her look like a major chuncker (that's why I had to post it), but she is actually growing really well and putting on weight in the normal range, it's just that this is a first for us to have a kid who eats!

Big Bro

This one was taken some time last week. Miles constantly asks to hold the baby and this time he actually put her to sleep. That could really come in handy!

Wish It Was Swine Flu

Miles woke up today with a fever and a cough. I made an appointment with the doctor for a flu test assuming he had finally gotten what 75% of his school already had. One of his teachers had warned me earlier in the week that the virus is quickly making its way through the school. We went in and got the swab, which was less than pleasant for Miles and then had to wait for his "negative" result. They also swabbed him for strep, poor kid, which also came back negative! It just figures that the H1N1 is infecting every school age child and my kid manages to still pick up some other random virus. Unfortunately, Miles usually gets 106 degree fevers with viruses and this one already started out with 102-103. They also usually last for a week or more. So now I say "I wish it was the swine flu" cause at least he would be better in 2-3 days with the Tamiflu. Now we just sit and wait...........

at least he's a good sport. (Miles wanted to rest in a "tent bed" under the coffee table.)
