Avery's First Dance Outfit

With much reluctance, I signed Avery up for her first dance class.......some things just can't be avoided. We went to Target to get her leotard and some tights and she spent the rest of the afternoon giving us a show. This afternoon, we will head over to the studio and get her ballet shoes. Her class starts Sept. 7th, just in time for her 2nd Birthday (they have to be 2 to start). She would go right now if they would let her!!

Miles First Day of Kindergarten

Preschool last year:

Kindergarten 2011:

Miles' first day of Kindergarten was today. He will be in school full days, 9:40-3:50 (Yeah Mommy!!) His teacher's name is Mrs. Webb. She seems very nice. Miles was very excited. He came right in, followed directions with his backpack and sat at his seat at the front of the class (for hearing impairment). He seemed to know a few kids in his class from his time at Long Leaf Elementary a couple of years ago, so at least he will know some friends. His friends from our street are not in his class this year, but Miles is very social and didn't seem to mind.

Kindergarten couldn't have come soon enough. He was itching to have more to do now at the end of the summer and would often tell me, "Mommy, I'm boring (bored)." So it was definitely time for some structure. He worked very hard over the summer on his sight words, numbers, and reading, before he would go to bed most nights. By the end of the summer he could read an entire book by himself. He can now easily read Level 1 Readers and is on to Level 2s. He just read Green, Eggs and Ham for Daddy which is a 62 page book (with pictures) all by himself with no one reading it to him first. He was also given a pretty challenging book in his folder from the school. We worked on it for a week before school started and at the end of the week he could read it on his own. Although motivating him is a struggle, he is quite proud of his accomplishments when he has them and even though he is now a good "reader" he still seems to be more proficient with math, numbers, and science type activities. He is very excited to show his Lola and Lolo all that he learned when they come to visit next month.

It was a pretty successful first day. Some of the kids seemed sad or were already missing Mommy's and Daddy's but Miles is a trooper and couldn't have been happier to be back in school.......as is Mommy. Now if I could only find someone to take Avery, I'd be all set:)
