Birthday Trip to Disney

Miles chose to go to Disney this year instead of having a party with his friends, which was great for us since it had been two years since we had been to Disney and it was something we could all look forward to. Avery is still a little young for an overnighter at Disney, so she stayed at home with Nana.

We went to Magic Kingdom on Wednesday and Epcot on Thursday. This is the first year we didn't use a stroller with Miles and the two days of walking really wore him out, but he did great. We dragged him by the hand through the entire park on both days. At times he wanted us to slow down and the next thing you know he'd be sprinting ahead. He slept like a rock at the hotel (which he insisted on calling the tel-ho for a good part of Wednesday) and even took a nap on the ride home for about an hour and a half.

Miles was finally tall enough to ride all the rides and he took full advantage of it by wanting to ride everything. This was his first year on the big roller coasters and although he was rather unemotional while riding them, he kept saying how "awesome" they were when he got off. His favorite ride at Magic Kingdom was Splash Mountain and at Epcot it was Soarin'.

We decided to go on a Wednesday, hoping it would be less crowded during the week, but in the almost 30 years I have been going to Disney, I have never seen it that crowded at Magic Kingdom. It was body to body in the street and had it not been for Miles handicap pass, we would have been waiting in lines hours long. We asked one of the ride attendants why it was so crowded and he said it was President's week and some kids have the week off of school. It made sense on Wednesday, but when we went to Epcot on Thursday, it was completely empty. The regular lines were 5 min. long at most. So we don't know what happened, but we will skip Disney during this week from now on. There was a whole, huge hotel fiasco too, but we we won't even go there! All in all it was a great trip, with the most perfect weather ever and I think Miles felt he had a wonderful birthday, well worth giving up the party. Avery was pretty good for Nana too, so you can't ask for much more.

The lady across from us thought this would make a nice pic:
